Two days, three tornadoes, one city. Wow. As we were training on Monday afternoon we heard them. The tornado sirens went off, so we waited in the hall until they stopped, never guessing that 15 miles from our location was the largest tornado in US history. As we heard about it we didn’t know what to think. I asked myself, “What can I do?” “What is going on?”. Then we heard that two schools were demolished. Many children and teachers had died. The whole city is asking questions and everyone is wandering around very confused. Then we heard a message by David Gibbs about How God does all things well. This was what I needed, but how? How is this part of Gods will?
The In The Gap team took the call and a few days after the disaster we put in hours of volunteer clean-up work with our team of 35 people. Although we felt as if we barely touched the problem, we did get a lot accomplished. But why? Why does God allow these things? It can be confusing and frightening, but knowing that God is all powerful and in control is the most comforting thing in the world! I know that God likes to show His power. I also know that there are many hurting souls who do not know this. They don’t know the truth about the God we serve. Pray that God would do what only He can do and give hope to those who were affected. He is the one that comforts those who are weak! Praise the Lord!
